     IRON is an element -ĺRŌN* is an energy. Both have the strength of the earth, shaped with fire and tempered by water.
    The beat of the Iron is at the very centre of our Carnival Music.
 Its Iròn energy drives the Masqueraders to keep on moving, moving forward for hours on end, in spite of aching bodies and sore feet.

                                               Ashè ‘is a blessing  - Írōn  is a force.

                                           And it’s Colours are Black, White and Red.

"ĺRŌN* - A mysterious permanent dimension of reality which, until revealed, is shut off from human view.
Otherworldly phenomena whose worldly manifestations are temporary and periodically reintroduced or reveale

"Do not go quietly into the night ! "

These are part of a series of 12 mixed media works. I used white crayon with water based ink and acrylic for a resist effect, some are collaged with torn up prints from my linocut production. Stenciled and printed with mesh they became denser and darker as I worked on them. The title is inspired by a Dylan Thomas’ poem:
" Do not go gentle into that good night,
            Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
   Rage, rage against the dying of the light"

Lorica
                                                      “Lorica” originally meant “Breastplate”, a part of the armor of Roman Soldiers. It is also a chant of protection, as in ‘The Lorica of St Patrick”.
I am exploring the Lorica  concept in a series of mixed media works, ‘chants of protection‘ not for Soldiers or Saints, but for all of us, who are neither high nor low, just living souls in need of our own personal
“Lorica”.
